Atlanta’s own Roscoe Dash is heating up the airways with his singles, “All the Way Turnt Up” featuring Soulja Boy Tell’em and “Show Out”. The twenty year-old newbie is ready to set the world on fire. As his career heats up his goal is to cater to Hip-Hop lovers around the world.

Born and raised in Atlanta the southern rapper listened to veterans like Pac, Biggie, Outkast, Jay-Z and Lil’ Jon. He planned to craft a unique sound that would unite the northeast, southeast, and west coast’s musical style. His goal for the album he says “I don’t want it to be too down south that the up north people don’t like it or too East coast that the West coast doesn’t like it. You have to make sure it is just right that way everyone enjoys it.” Fighting against the label “just another southern rapper” Roscoe is determined to crossover. Although the road to success has been bumpy he is definitely on his way up.

Parlé met up with Roscoe Dash at Interscope Records to discuss his career, aspirations, frienemies and much more.

Parlé Magazine: What was your original stage name?
Roscoe Dash: ATL

Parlé: Why did you change it?
Roscoe: I needed something more marketable. I felt ATL was kind of basic and boring. Plus it put me in that box of an Atlanta rapper so I needed something that would catch the ears and eyes of whoever was listening or reading the name Roscoe Dash and make them want to do research on Roscoe Dash.

Parlé: How were you discovered?
Roscoe: I was discovered in a club in Atlanta. When I played “All the Way Turnt Up” I got such a huge response that everyone was wondering who it was. I went through a lot of things with the record were nobody knew that it was my record. So I had to get Soulja Boy on the record. Once he got on it, it was leaked on the internet and it was gone from there.

Lounging in a high-rise office on a snowy morning in Manhattan, 19-year-old Atlanta native Roscoe Dash seems unfazed by the blizzard happening outside in the streets. Much like the heavy snowfall, the rapper hit the masses with little warning, yet no one could’ve predicted the impact he would have on the music industry. His debut single, “All the Way Turnt Up” featuring Soulja Boy Tell’em, and follow-up single “Show Out,” have quickly captured listeners’ attention. Even Roscoe himself couldn’t have guessed the outcome. He may be a Southern spitter, but his sound has spanned the U.S. and beyond.

“When you come from a Down South region, a lot of other regions don’t really respect Down South music,” Roscoe explains to Rap-Up.com. “It was really surprising for me the fact that you got people on the West Coast, you got people up North, you got people across the Southwest region, and everybody likes the music—even people overseas and in Canada. We got a lot of people wanting to book shows, so it’s just amazing to see how fast music can change your life.”

Roscoe Dash - About To Pop - Interview | News

Why He's About to Pop: Atlanta's Roscoe Dash started rapping at the age of 12, joined a four-piece rap group called the Blackout Boys in high school and released his first solo mixtape, 'My Turn,' in 2007. In 2009, he played a song that he'd written, 'All the Way Turnt Up,' for Travis Porter, and the track ended up on T.P.'s next release -- but Dash was only credited as a "featuring" artist. Controversy aside, Dash's mixture of hip-hop and pop soon landed him a record deal, so he rerecorded the tune with Soulja Boy and put it out as his own catchy single. "The rest is history!" the rapper tells PopEater.

Since then, Dash has released another single, 'Show Out,' and landed the title track in the movie soundtrack for 'Step Up 3D' with the song 'My Own Step,' featuring T-Pain. His debut LP, 'Ready Set Go,' will be released on July 20. "My album is a breath of fresh air for people -- not only in Atlanta, but for the entire world," Dash says. "My album will have you motivated to work out one second and ready to make love the next minute [laughs]. Pure energy all around."

Really I have just been promoting Roscoe Dash. Doing a lot of interviews, shows -- I did BET's Rip The Runway. Other than that I basically been campaigning, man. I actually just got back to Atlanta so I'm trying to put some more work into the album. It's been a great experience so far.
